Okie Bowl Hardtop Rules
Disclosure...The Okie Bowl
Hardtops have been running for over 2 years now and it's time to buckle down.
I'm sorry to say but No more super modifieds or sportsmens will race with us!
Hard Tops and vintage Stockcars ONLY! These cars can still be built on a budget
so throw one together and come out and race with
us!
NO IMCA, HOBBY STOCK, STREET STOCK CHASSIS!!!
IF YOU SHOW UP WITH A HARDTOP BUILT LIKE THIS YOU WILL NOT RACE WITH US!!!
We want to try and keep the cars period correct!
Engine
Body
-
1928 thru 1948 steel
American-made passenger car sedan or coupe type bodies.
-
Bodies must be
completely stock.
-
No chopping, shortening,
or altering.
-
All flammable material,
glass, and hardware must be removed.
-
All window openings must
remain stock except rear window which may be enlarged a maximum of 6 inches
all around opening.
-
Rear of body may be
shortened or bobbed to the last rear cross member.
-
Doors must be welded or
bolted shot.
-
Stock cowl must remain
on body except for trimming.
-
Hood mandatory and must
be stock appearing for body used.
-
Hood can be aluminum,
steel, or fiberglass replacement.
-
Bodies will have a 60
minimum height measured from ground to top of body.
-
NO portion of the body
may be lower than the bottom of the frame main rails.

Stock steel frame only.

Must have a complete
X-type cross member.
-
Frame may be boxed for
reinforcement.

Frame may be Vd outside
of cage area.

All cross members must
be replaced with steel tubing, channel iron, or pipe.

NO replacement tubing
used in main side rails between center of front axle and center of rear
axle, except when needed for mounting of nerfs, cage, body, or springs.
Roll Bars:
-
1.5 o.d. x .095 minimum
steel tubing or 1.25 x .120 steel pipe full cage mandatory.
-
Cage must be welded to
main frame in 6 places, plus gussets must be used.
-
Minimum 3 sidebars on
left and 2 sidebars on right connecting to front and rear cage uprights.
-
Cage must be braced to
rear and cross-braced to each side.
Front axle:
-
NO after market tube
axles or twin I-beam axles.
-
Independent front ends
allowed, but must come factory..
-
Front billet or safety
hubs recommended.
-
Stock spindles OK.
Rear End:
Suspension:
-
Steel leaf springs only
are allowed.
-
Mounting must be
transverse (cross) or parallel only.
-
Adjustable shackles and
weight jacks OK.
-
Sway bars allowed, but
must be OEM type.
-
NO after-market sway
bars, no torque arms, coil overs, torsion bars, spring rod and biscuit, coil
over eliminator, or fifth arm suspension permitted.
Shocks:
-
Steel shocks only.
-
Minimum of 1 shock per
wheel mounted in any position.
-
Racing shocks permitted
but cannot be adjustable.
-
NO driver operated
adjustable shocks or weight adjusting devices allowed.
Steering:
-
Any truck or passenger
car steering box permitted, except NO rack and pinion.
-
Only OEM power steering
boxes and pumps are permitted.
-
Steering may be
quickened or a steering quickener added.
-
Steering wheel and seat
may be moved to center of car.
-
Racing steering wheels
and quick release hubs recommended.
Brakes:
-
All cars must have
adequate brakes on at least 3 wheels at all times.
-
Any type brake system
allowed.
-
Disc brake calipers must
be steel.
Transmission:
-
Any OEM transmission
allowed.
-
Must have one forward
and one reverse gear in working order.
-
Automatic transmissions
with any converter allowed.
-
NO in and out boxes or
quick change boxes.
-
Clutch:
-
Single disc only.
-
10 minimum o.d.
clutch pressure plate assembly.
-
No direct drive,
multiple disc, dog or Ram type friction clutches allowed.
Wheels:
-
Any width steel wheel
allowed.
-
Racing wheels are
recommended.
-
NO aluminum, magnesium,
plastic, or carbon fiber wheels allowed.
-
NO bead locks.
Tires:
-
Any DOT tire with a
minimum hardness of 50.
-
Any recap tires on a DOT
casing.
-
Maximum tread width is
8 except RIGHT REAR which will have a maximum tread width of 10.
-
Tires may be grooved.
-
McCreary, Hoosier,
Goodyear, American Racer
-
MUST have a DOT stamping
and fit within tire width gauge.
-
NO exceptions.
Wheelbase:
-
Must be within 2 of
stock wheelbase for year of body used.
-
No car will be permitted
with less than the minimum of 105 measured on the shortest side at any
time, unless it was caused by an incident on that race date.
Fuel Tank:
-
Must be located in rear
area of body.
-
Must be in an area
sealed off from the driver.
-
Must have vent valve for
safety in case of rollover.
-
Fuel cells must be fully
enclosed in a metal box.
Fuel:
-
Pump gas or racing gas
ONLY.
-
NO alcohol, nitro, or
nitrous oxide.

Shield must be a minimum
of 3/16x4 steel, 180 over bellhousing area, and be mounted to frame. Or
use an approved scattershield bellhousing such as C.A.E., Lakewood, etc.

OEM gas engine permitted except V-6 and overhead camshaft engines. The
following limitations and rules apply:

6-cylinder overhead
valve and Flathead (V-8 or 6-cyl) engines have no cubic inch limits or
restrictions except B below.

NO fuel injection,
blowers, or superchargers on any engines.

8-cylinder overhead

No fiberglass or plastic
seats.

Seat mounting must have
(4) 3/8 bolts minimum, 2 bolts on the bottom and 2 bolts on the seat back
near top area with large washers on each.

High back or headrest
recommended.
-
Second seat allowed for
a passenger.
-
Passenger side must have
3 door bars and a window net.
Appearance:
-
Cars must be
attractively painted with large numbers in contrasting color.
-
Numbers must be at least
24 high on each side and deck lid of car.

No primer painted cars
permitted.
-
NO radio communications
to driver is allowed
